Meeting up
Meet in a public place in daylight — a busy corner, a coffee shop — and bring someone with you.
This is a neighborhood event. If you know the poster — or a neighbor who does — a familiar porch with a familiar face is the easiest handover there is. If you don't, treat it like meeting any stranger from the internet.
Nothing valuable should change hands at anyone's home, and teens should bring an adult along.
Proving it's yours
Found something? Don't publish the details that prove ownership — what's inside, serial numbers, initials. Let the owner tell you.
Lost something? Describe a detail that isn't in the listing — that's how the finder knows it's you.
Wallets, IDs and phones can also be handed in at your local police department — for IDs that's often the fastest route home.
Red flags
Never send money, gift cards, a deposit or a "release fee" to recover an item. Nobody legitimate asks.
Be wary of "I'll send a courier to collect it" — a classic marketplace scam.
Keep the conversation here until the claim checks out. You never need to give out your phone number, address or email to get something back.
If anything feels wrong, walk away — and for anything criminal, call the police non-emergency line.
